Reaching Higher with Music in Education: Inclusive Classroom success for Lifelong Learning

The workshops will be hands-on education music workshops where the presenter will actively engage participants through multi-modal activities for integrated cross-curricular and culturally relevant PK-12 learning.

The workshop is open for instructional leaders, teaching and support staff from all school settings and special education.

Professor Sobol, educator / author is recognized by leading international biographical publications for her contributions to the field of music in special education. Drawing upon her extensive research and experience teaching students with learning differences including those with social, emotional, behavioral, developmental and intellectual disabilities she has brought her interactive style of instruction to participants throughout the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
A full time Visiting Associate Professor of Music Education in NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and performing Arts Professions, Dr. Sobol is coordinator of the Music Licensure Certification programs and Director of continuing Education in Music. She brings to her appointment over 36 years of PK-16 teaching experience in general, special education and collegiate settings. The third edition of her popular text An Attitude and Approach for Teaching Music to Special Learners (Rowman Littlefield Education, 2017) was released this past Spring. Her published doctoral autism research “Music Aptitude’s Effect on Developmental/Academic Gains for Students with Significant Cognitive/Language Delays (2014) brought groundbreaking data to higher education.
As an instructional leader, Dr. Sobol continues her appointment as the New York State School Music Association Chairperson for Teaching Music to Special Learners and as Portfolio Co-Chair of the New York State Regents Blue Ribbon Commission on the Arts. She is active in professional organizations such as ASCD, ISME and NAfME. She serves additionally on the advisory boards of the Berklee Institute for Arts Education and Special Needs, the Music Educators Association of New York City and the editorial board of Personalized Medicine University for the International Society of Personalized Medicine, Tokyo, Japan. Recent awards for distinguished service include: Albert Nelson Marquis’ Lifetime Achievement (2018); Professor of the Year by Education Update (2016); Honoree, Music Educators Association of New York City (2016); New York State Teacher of the Year Finalist (2015) and 3x nominee for the Grammy® Music Educator Award.
Fundacion Muchila Creativo welcomes Dr. Sobol’s fourth return (2005, 2006, 2011) to Aruba for professional development workshops for educators. We are grateful for her expertise in culturally relevant inclusive education.
